The GI Bill is mentioned in the text in regards to the later plans of the veterans, which they discuss in the St Jude Club. Joe LaFontaine speaks about how the government would be willing to pay for his college education and intends to become a teacher. However, the positive outlook is shown to be false, as the veterans are later presented as pessimistic people, especially Arthur Rivier, who struggles to cope with not talking about the war. Every book needs a hero. We’ve named our top 20 heroes and heroines from literature. From the sleuthing Nancy Drew to the unlikely hero in The Little Prince, there’s a long list of both well-known and atypical heroes and heroines. Who made your list? Tell us in the comments below! Lee revealed in April 2010, however, that Showtime had decided against producing the series. "Showtime finally didn't commit and we're now exploring our options," Lee said. [14] Moore expressed his intent to bring the novel to television. "'Hero' will see its day onscreen. I'm not sure how or where or who will make it possible, but like all the best heroes, you have to have faith. And when it does, it will be another step forward. And some folks will think, 'Damn, it's about time someone thought of doing that.'" [14]

Moore told The New York Times in 2007 that he planned a series of book sequels featuring Thom Creed. [2] The great and wise Gandalf is a powerful wizard who led the final War of the Ring and is a great hero throughout the series. The novel has a very complicated outlook on heroism and what defines a hero. Francis is considered to be a hero as his actions during the war saved the lives of others, but the reader is asked to consider if cowardly actions can result in heroic consequences. Nancy Drew is a young, fearless detective who is always smartly solving crimes and is the hero of her town.Katniss is a strong young woman who is truly a “hero” when she wins The Hunger Games. Her strength and endurance after all she’s been through makes her quite exceptional.

The ramifications of war are explored within the text, arguably with the trauma inflicted upon Nicole & Francis by Larry LaSalle representing the way war pays no regard to its effect on people, especially the young. The strong-willed main character of Little Women follows her dream of being a writer and defies stereotypes—often being described as an “early feminist”. Elizabeth chooses her heart over societal norms and can always be caught enjoying a good book—giving her a spot on our heroine list. The grants, rights, and releases made hereby are irrevocable.
