I had been thinking that I'd be willing to travel to a place where community transmission levels are below 10 cases per 100,000 population as mentioned in my prior update from November. (That's the level the CDC describes as "low" transmission/risk.) Then I realized that many of my clients fly or drive in from other areas. Sometimes, most of my clients are from other regions. I remember one Atlanta trip where I pierced people from 21 other states and 3 other countries (as far away as Israel)--and only a handful of locals. Many of the young people in our society here in the USA are embracing a dangerous “little fox” or seemingly “little thing” that may seem harmless. The young people are saying that it is a “trendy” thing to do. Many of them are showing off multiple ear, nose, tongue, eyebrow and navel jewels and rings attached to their pierced flesh. Some even have this done on unspeakable parts of their bodies. These are abnormal and unnatural.I have not resigned myself to becoming infected, and I am continuing to avoid risks as much as possible.

This was a period of tremendous growth and development in the piercing world, and a time of many "firsts" as we experimented with the possibilities of piercing the body. It was just before piercing started to become an industry, rather than just a single, highly unusual specialty shop! Some things worked better than others, and we pursued what was successful. During this era, nipples and genitals were the mainstays of our piercing work. Facial and ear piercings were far less popular than the more functional options. Navel piercings were virtually unheard of! And it is to my roots that I have returned. As far as I know, I'm the only professional piercer specializing exclusively in nipple and genital piercings for adults of all genders. I used to tour regularly around the U.S., guest piercing at the studios of my colleagues, since I no longer have my own premises. However, since the Covid pandemic I have curtailed my travels. At this point my plan for the foreseeable future is to pierce twice annually in Detroit. MY SPECIALTY- I specialize exclusively in genital piercings for adults of all genders ( women, men and others), as well as nipple piercings. I refer to my colleagues for other piercings. I do an extensive amount of research on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, and based on the medical and scientific findings, there was no other conclusion to be reached. Just this week, the U.S. continues to set records for new coronavirus case numbers, and hospitalizations are up (so it isn’t just from expanded testing). A new study shows that approximately 1 in 10 cases suffers from an ongoing illness. [i] Even mild cases can have distressing and long-lasting effects. [ii] I would really like to avoid any of that. Many of our young people are getting body piercings and tattoos out of a spirit of rebellion against their parents advice. Many men are also wearing earrings to make a statement of their rebellion by showing that they are “macho” or homosexual. Because the youth of our day are despising and rebelling against their parents this is very displeasing to the Lord as one of the Ten Commandments in the Bible is to honor our parents ( Exodus 20:12: “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee” and Colossians 3:20: “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.”) I'm up to date with my vaccinations (according to the CDC's guidelines), and if cases remain low, then I'm going for it! Masks are required in the studio, and to secure an appointment with me, it is necessary that you are also up to date with your vaccinations (and provide proof).

I'm still holding out some hope for the world returning to a semblance of normal, and that infection levels will eventually fall to a level with which I feel comfortable. In the same way that I don't take chances with the health of my clients, I don't take chances with my own. I appreciate your understanding. Stay safe! I’ve come to a painful and difficult decision: I do not plan to travel until an effective vaccine against COVID-19 has been widely distributed (or possibly, if there’s much-improved treatment). I’ll be 60 years old in August, and though in good health, I’m more risk-averse than I might appear (being covered in tattoos and piercings). I undertook further volunteer duties with the APP, serving as Editor of the APP's quarterly journal, THE POINT. I produced four publications per year, from issues #17- #31. You must be very gentle during sexual activities while you are healing because the dydoe generally frames the widest part of the anatomy. Wrapping sterile gauze around the jewelry when the piercing is fresh can be helpful to diminish jewelry movement during initial healing. Also, we should consider what the Old Testament Law had to say about the related issue of cutting the flesh and marking the body. The command to Israel was “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). It seems the common practice among the nations surrounding Israel was to cut, lance, or somehow scar the body “for the dead”; that is, cutting oneself was part of a pagan mourning ritual or possibly a superstitious rite to aid the spirits of the departed. We see this type of behavior in action in Elijah’s day, as Baal-worshipers “slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed” (1 Kings 18:28). It is safe to say that, if a certain body piercing hints at paganism or honors a false philosophy, then it is sinful.
