About this deal

This Mallorca cycle route takes on some of the island’s most flat and fast roads, heading toward the south side of the island with seemingly endless smooth tarmac. It’s best ridden with a group of friends sharing the turns at the front, as you ride through flat and rolling countryside of the ‘Pla de Mallorca’ region to the ‘Migjorn’. British Cycling keep an apartment right in the centre of Puerto Pollensa (apparently); Team Sky stay in the Vanity Golf Hotel in Alcudia (the next bay to the south of Pollensa). Provide Specialized road bikes (aluminum and carbon) as well as city bikes, mountain bikes, electric bikes and children’s bikes. So, for anyone seeking to sample the best cycling routes in Mallorca, Puerto Pollensa would be our recommendation. But, if you don’t know where to begin, in this guide we’ve listed the Puerto Pollensa cycling routes that you certainly cannot afford to miss. The east of Mallorca attracts fewer cyclists than the west of the island, which is of course home to the fantastic Tramuntana Mountains. However, it should not be completely written off, as there are some excellent routes here. The best, particularly for cyclists

First of all, whichever way you are cycling this Mallorca climb, the tarmac is superb. That is because it links the mountains with the northern coast and so it's a main road. The flip side of that coin is that it can be busy, especially in the summer months.Once you summit, you have the option of riding into Lluc. It's also a great climb to start a loop taking in the Coll de Sa Batalla, Sa Calobraor Puig Major. When riding here you will see why it’s worthy of featuring in our list of the best cycle routes in Mallorca. As you look down to the crystal clear blue water, rolling on perfectly smooth tarmac, you’ll be thinking ‘this is why I came to Mallorca!’ Cap de Formentor is hilly throughout, with the longest and most challenging climb coming at the very start, but it is never especially steep. The scenery makes the effort well worth it, with incredible coastal views throughout the vast majority of the route, particularly in the final 4km after passing through a short (and unlit) tunnel.

for a coffee. The route is also book-ended by Esporles and Andratx - two slightly larger towns, but also with impressive historic centres and a real authentic charm. Randa, a small village just north of Llucmajor in the flatlands is where the climb starts. Your approach to it will be through the rural flatlands that make Mallorca such a tapestry of terrain. The road begins climbing with an average of about 5% and the official Strava segment starts with a signpost indicating the monastery of Santuari de Randa. Now I wouldn’t necessarily recommend staying there for two weeks in the height of summer. The pools were very busy. With other people’s children. And if, like me, you are wary of ‘other people’s children’, you may wish to steer clear. The longest route around the entire perimeter is 312km - North to South is 75km and East to West is 100km. Both of our recent holidays in Puerto Pollensa have featured a week spent staying in an apartment in the Pinewalk area of the town. Which is fine, but not particularly cycling-relevant (other than being well-located for the ride out towards the Formentor lighthouse i.e. day 1’s ride).
