About this deal

Though the text is simplified, it’s still beyond the board-book audience, and the illustrations deserve full-size books. Mick Inkpen is the author of One Bear at a Time , Just Like Jasper , The Nativity Play and The School Trip . Created by master storyteller, Mick Inkpen, there is a whole range of Kipper books to choose classic picture books, TV tie in picture books, novelty board books, sticker books, pop up books and much much more. Lined up for enumeration, the toys are six again; but after putting them back in the box, he finds eight noses.

The simplified text tells the story of the beautiful princess sent to the forest by her wicked stepmother to be “done away with,” the dwarves that take her in, and, eventually, the happily-ever-after ending. His best-loved characters are probably Kipper and Wibbly Pig – who are both stars of their very own TV series!

Though simplified for a younger audience, the text still relates the well-known tale: mean-spirited stepmother, spoiled stepsisters, overworked Cinderella, fairy godmother, glass slipper, charming prince, and, of course, happily-ever-after. This the second time I've read the kipper collections by Mick Inkpen and I have enjoyed it both times. Our donations to The Rainbow Centre have helped provide an education and a safe haven to hundreds of children who live in appalling conditions. He and his wife, Debbie, also had children of their own by this point: “Without the experience of having children of my own I doubt that I would have been capable of writing effectively for children.

Kipper one day notices a hole in the corner of his toy box and is instantly worried that some of his toys may be missing. It is useful if you are a collector as you can use the back page to see which Kipper books you have not managed to pick up yet. I will certainly treasure this in my own dog books collection for the years to come even when my son will have outgrown this literature * londonmumsmagazine. Soon, Kipper manages to get the right number of toys but then notices that his favourite toy ‘Sock Thing’ is missing and gets very upset.Summary: Kipper has put all his toys away in his toybox and decides to count them so that they are safe. Well that would be telling, but needless to say the ending will be a happy one - as it always is with Kipper.

Part of the popular Kipper series, this story is a big hit in EYFS and one with plenty of parts that children love to join in with. The companion volume, Snow White, set in Japan and illustrated by Misa Saburi, follows the same format. His books have sold over 4 million copies, and have been translated into over twenty different languages. It's a bit longer than some of the others I've read which I do like since we're reading for 'stories' for my 2 year old granddaughter. Kipper, a charmingly fubsy dog, is concerned: something has nibbled a hole in his toybox; and when he dumps his toys out, he can count one too many: seven.
