As much as I love high-res and gorgeously detailed artwork there are certain games where it really isn’t necessary, and The Castles of Burgundy is one of them. I just want my favorite boardgames to become awesome PC ports, so we can play more often with online matchmaking. The Special Edition of the Castles of Burgundy is beautifully made, with high end, quality feeling components that elevate gameplay to the next level.

The 9 different player boards provide a lot of diversity and each game is very different from the others.Although somewhat ugly, and with average components, the gameplay is rich and full of decisions and meat to go with that point salad. You can choose to display a lighter background for estate spaces, which will make the tiles stand out more. That’s an okay total by itself, but it only becomes a winning play if you drop that 5th tile to get an additional 15 points, plus 15 for the region, plus, say, 2 for the round bonus.

As if you were some kind of horrible first-year acting student, keen to grope and squeal your nights away. The Castles of Burgundy is more than its underwhelming artwork (and yes, even the updated 20th anniversary edition has underwhelming artwork).Five times during the game a seductive assortment of fresh hexes is dumped onto six areas on the central board, corresponding to six sides on a die. You each start with silver and workers, with the amount depending on start player, and you’re good to go. When I talk about efficiency knowledge tiles, I am referring to the tiles that generally replace the use of workers in some way. Paul: Wellllll, I’d be much more likely to recommend Burgundy to new players because it’s so accessible. The Castles of Burgundy, which casts 2-4 players as the holders of estates in medieval France, has the whole board game community bleating with quiet joy.
